"Pirogue de L'Ile de Bouka/Pirouge des Asacides"

Original copper-plate engraving by Copia after Antoine-Louis Piron (1763-1819) who was the official draughtsman on the Reserche. Bouka, or Buka, was named by Bouganville during his voyage (1766-1769)in 1768 after the name he thought the natives gave coconuts. Terre des Asacides became the Solomon islands.
